How to practice Islam (Submission?

Young Enlightened Submitters

There are 5 things that help us grow in our religion, Submission (Islam) and be happy in this life and in the After Life (after we die and go to Heaven.)

  1. Shahada which means declaration of faith, to say that you believe that there is only one God. "I bearwitness there is no god Besides God and HE has no partners"
  2. Prayer, called salat in Arabic: This is a very special prayer, that is why we call it contact prayer as you contact God by doing it the right way. We pray five times a day. If you want to ask God for any thing you can do just that at any time. The five daily contact prayers are the main meals for the soul. We learn from the Quran , verse 2:37 that we can establish contact with God by uttering the specific Arabic words given to us by God, Sura 1, The Key.

The Dawn Prayer, the Noon Prayer, the Afternoon Prayer, the Sunset Prayer and the Night Prayer.

  3. Fasting: Fasting is done during the month of Ramadan every year. Only after you grow up enough and can fast that you will be asked to do so. Ramadan is a great month for the whole family to fast together and eat together. They study the Quran together and visit their relatives and neighbors more often. See our Ramadan section of YES.
  4. Charity, called Zakat in Arabic: When you grow up, you will have to pay part of the money you make to the poor and needy people. God wants us to be good to all those around us in the world and help them whenever we can.
  5. Pilgrimage, called Hajj in Arabic: This is to visit the Sacred Masjid in Mecca and perform the activities of Hajj. Only those who are healthy and have enough money to spare should travel to Mecca to do Hajj.
