In the Name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Over Saqar are 19- 74:26-37
Chapter 74, The Hidden Secret/Al-Muddath-ther, is the one chapter in Quran that hints to the nineteen-based mathematical miracle as one of the great miracles. The three digits of the gematrical value of the word Al-Muddath-ther (775) add up to 19 (7+7+5).
For the longest time, Muslims have had their limitation understanding the text of 74:26-37. Because the Mathematical Miracle of Quran has not been unveiled until this recent generation through God's Messenger of the Covenant, Muslims have not been successful in understanding the meanings of those verses. They have not been able to make any connection between the number of the guards of Saqar/Hell/Jehanna (74:26-30) and the rest of the verses until verse 37. They have had no choice but to ignore these verses as if they did not exist. They have had no clue about that great miracle God is referring to in 74:35 and what this has to do with the narration prior to that about the guards of Saqar/Hell/Gehanna. All that they have been able to conclude is that Saqar/Gehanna "MIGHT" or "MIGHT NOT" have 19 guards of angels. Until now, the majority, have not gone beyond that. It is stated in a straightforward manner in 74:30-31 that Saqar does have 19 guards of angels.
It has been a blessing that we are able to see the connection and understand the entire passage through the unveiling of the nature and some of the findings of the Mathematical Miracle by God's Messenger of the Covenant. Other wise, we would have been as puzzled as the majority reading through 74:26-37.
Now that the miracle has been unveiled, and the context of 74:30-37 has been clarified to them, not only that they have been continuing to ignore 74:31-37, but also they have been challenging the mathematical miracle, denying its existence and refuting its findings. They have also been attacking the messenger, fighting and ridiculing those who have witnessed the miracle and claiming that Quran is in no need for authentication and they are high above needing assurance that every word in Quran is divinely authored!
This reminder is not about them though. It is about, us, submitters, and about the text of 74:26-37. Until this moment, there is a confusion about this text, among us, the ones who have witnessed the Mathematical Miracle of Quran. We still hear some submitters stating that " Over it" in 74:30 refers to Quran! Others firmly promote the idea that this group of verses are all allegorical, the guards of Hell are not 19 and no one knows their number except God! And many others among us have not been capable of clearly repeating what God states in their own words because they are not sure of what exactly these verses state. All of us agree, however, that the verses are "hinting" to the 19-based Mathematical Miracle of Quran and its functions, and that, we have been blessed to have had a messenger unveiling that miracle for us.
The following is a detailed representation rather than an eloquent translation of what God has stated or perfectly structured in 74:26-37. It is offered mainly to clear up any confusion about this group of verses. The translation of this specific group of verses, its subtitles and footnotes, offered by the messenger, are all based on his knowledge of what is behind the example of "19" mentioned in 74:30-31 and on his assigned duty to unveil the miracle and purify Quran. Some new comers or visitors of the message of Quran know full well that the translation of some words and verses in this group is not exactly conforming with the Arabic text. Others do not see a logical sequence in the translated verses and do not understand the translation of this group of verses. They hold all of this against us, against the messenger and against the miracle. Therefor, it is important that we know what God has stated in these verses to be able to challenge them and refute any of their false accusations.
[74:26] I will commit him to retribution.
[74:27] What retribution!
[74:28] Thorough and comprehensive.
[74:29] Obvious to all the people.
[74:30] Over it is nineteen.
[74:31] We appointed angels to be guardians of Hell, and we assigned their number (19) (1) to disturb the disbelievers, (2) to convince the Christians and Jews (that this is a divine scripture), (3) to strengthen the faith of the faithful, (4) to remove all traces of doubt from the hearts of Christians, Jews, as well as the believers, and (5) to expose those who harbor doubt in their hearts, and the disbelievers; they will say, "What did God mean by this allegory?" God thus sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills. None knows the soldiers of your Lord except He. This is a reminder for the people.
[74:32] Absolutely, (I swear) by the moon.
[74:33] And the night as it passes.
[74:34] And the morning as it shines.
[74:35] This is one of the great miracles.
[74:36] A warning to the human race.
[74:37] For those among you who wish to advance, or regress.
The Arabic text states:
[٢٦:٧٤] سَأُصليهِ سَقَرَ
Verse 26: I will commit him to Saqar, not "to retribution. "
Saqar is one of the proper names of Hell. It is equal to Jehanna. It is a feminine entity just like Jehanna. It is the feminine entity referred to in all the following verses until 74:30
[٢٧:٧٤] وَما أَدرىٰكَ ما سَقَرُ
Verse 27: You have no idea what Saqar is.
[٢٨:٧٤] لا تُبقى وَلا تَذَرُ
Verse 28: She (Saqar) does not preserve anything and she (Saqar) does not leave anything as intact.
[٢٩:٧٤] لَوّاحَةٌ لِلبَشَرِ
Verse 29: She (Saqar) has been made distinguishable to the entire human race.
[٣٠:٧٤] عَلَيها تِسعَةَ عَشَرَ
Verse 30: Over her (Saqar) are 19
Verse 31: We appointed ONLY angels to be guardians of Hellfire, and we assigned "their number" (which is 19 as stated in 74:30 and the Arabic word for "their number" is a feminine entity ; eddatahum ) to be a source of agony for the disbelievers, to assure the people of the scripture, to increase the faith of the faithful, to remove doubt from the hearts of the people of the scripture as well as the believers, and to let those with diseased hearts and the disbelievers wonder: "What did God mean by this example?" (; why would the number of the angels guarding Saqar/Jehanna, which is19, would do all the above?) God thus sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills. None knows the soldiers of your Lord except He and she is (eddatahum, the feminine entity that means "their number" and is mentioned at the beginning of the verse) nothing but a reminder for the entire human race.
[٣٢:٧٤] كَلّا وَالقَمَرِ
Verse 32: Not only that, by the moon
[٣٣:٧٤] وَالَّيلِ إِذ أَدبَرَ
Verse 33: And by the night as it passes.
[٣٤:٧٤] وَالصُّبحِ إِذا أَسفَرَ
Verse 34: And by the morning as it shines
[٣٥:٧٤] إِنَّها لَإِحدَى الكُبَرِ
Verse 35: She is (eddatahum, the feminine entity talked about starting from verse 31 and means "their number") one of the great miracles.
[٣٦:٧٤] نَذيرًا لِلبَشَرِ
Verse 36: A warner to the entire human race.
[٣٧:٧٤] لِمَن شاءَ مِنكُم أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَو يَتَأَخَّرَ
Verse 37: For whoever wishes to advance or regress among you.
Again, the mere purpose of rephrasing the English translation of this group of verses is for all of us to understand that Saqar, which is a feminine proper name for the Hellfire is mentioned by name in 74:26-27 and it is consistently described in 74: 28-30 in a clear feminine tense. It is Saqar, not Quran as believed by some, that is referenced in 74:30 to have 19 guardians selected from among the angels as God states in 74:30-31. The Arabic word that means "their number" and is mentioned in 74:31 is the feminine entity, "eddatahum." It is consistently referenced in all the following verses until 74:35 in a clear feminine tense. God states that He chose "their number"/eddatahum, which is 19 as mentioned in 74:30, to be a reminder for the entire human race.. He states that such number, eddatahum, is set as a distinct example for the distinct purposes that are listed in 74:31. Then God adds that not only she (eddatahum, "their total or their number" which is 19 as sated in 74:30) is a reminder for the entire human race, but : He swears by the moon, the night and the morning that she, "their number/eddatahum", which is 19 as stated in 74:30, is one of the great miracles, and a warner for the entire human race for whoever wants to advance or regress among us.
If this has been your understanding of these verses all along, then, praise God.. if not, please verify the information and own the correct meanings to be able to explain these verses to others and refute any false claims about them.
Peaceful Friday, salaam and God bless.
